The winners of the 2024 Olivier Awards have been announced in London.
Organised by the Society of London Theatre, the annual Olivier Awards ceremony took place today, Sunday 14 April 2024, at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
The ceremony was once again hosted by Hannah Waddingham, alongside a galaxy of West End stars who performed and presented at the event.

Olivier Award-winning musicals
Jamie Lloyd’s production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard at the Savoy Theatre dominated the awards winning 7 Olivier Awards, including Best new musical revival, the Best director award for Jamie Lloyd, the Best actress in a musical award to Nicole Scherzinger, and the Best actor in a musical award to Tom Francis.
The show also won the Outstanding musical contribution award for Alan Williams for his Musical Supervision and Musical Direction; Best lighting design for Jack Knowles; and Best sound design for Adam Fisher.
Sunset Boulevard transfers from London to Broadway this year.
The Best new musical at this year’s awards went to Operation Mincemeat at the Fortune Theatre, which also took home Best supporting actor in a musical for Jak Malone.
Other musicals picking up awards included Nicholas Hytner’s immersive production of at the Bridge Theatre in London, which won Best theatre choreographer for Arlene Phillips with James Cousins. It was a first-win for veteran choreographer Dame Arlene Phillips, who is 80.
Also, The Little Big Things at @sohoplace theatre won an award, with Amy Trigg picking up a Best supporting actress in a musical gong.
Olivier Award-winning plays
In terms of plays, Vanya staring Andrew Scott won Best Revival, although Scott missed out on the Best actor gong. That went to Mark Gatiss for his performance as SirJohn Gielgud in Sam Mendes’ National Theatre production of The Motive and the Cue by Jack Thorne, which also played the West End’s Noël Coward theatre.
Rupert Goold’s production of James Graham’s Dear England at the National Theatre and Prince Edward Theatre won the Best new play award, and Best actor in a supporting role for Will Close.
Awards picked up by Stranger Things: The First Shadow at the Phoenix Theatre included Best new entertainment or comedy play, and Best set design for Miriam Buether (Set Design) and 59 Productions (Video Design).
The Picture Of Dorian Gray at the Theatre Royal Haymarket won two awards – Best actress for Sarah Snook, and Best costume design for Marg Horwell.
Outstanding achievement in an affiliate theatre went to Sleepova by Matilda Feyişayo at the Bush theatre. Also, Haydn Gwynne won a posthumous Best actress in a supporting role award for When Winston Went to War With the Wireless at the Donmar Warehouse.
More Olivier Award winners
Already announced ahead of tonight’s Olivier Awards were the Industry Recognition Awards. This year’s awards went to Sylvia Addison for her work in orchestral contracting; Vereen Irving for her work in ticketing and box office management; Robert Israel and Richard Walton for their work in theatre insurance; and Susan Whiddington CBE for her work in theatre education.
Olivier Awards Performers and Presenters
Performances at this year’s awards show included all of the nominees for Best New MusicalThe Little Big Things, Next To Normal, Operation Mincemeat, A Strange Loop, and Hadestown; and Tom Francis sang Sunset Boulevard from the hit show show, including a broadcast outside of the Royal Albert Hall!
There was also a special moment from Groundhog Day – which is currently running in Australia, and the grand finale was dedicated to the National Theatre, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary.
